Fall 2011

School has started today the 31st of August, 2011. Please be aware of the children going back and forth and adjust your speed accordingly. Road work is completed for this year. Unfortunatley this week we have been repairing the water line along 9th Ave. in front of the school. Hopefully this will be finished at close of business today. The Admin Office tries to supply all new comers with a package that contains details of the Village and what it has to offer. If you can think of anything that we should include please call. I received a call from a community member that wanted us to include the site www.standardalberta.ca, there is a calendar on this site that will keep you informed of what is happening within the Village clubs. The Councillors are sponsoring a bar b que on September 22, 2011 from 5:30 p.m to 7:00 p.m. This is your chance to meet your councillor and ask them any questions. Bring your concerns and your kudos. We will have copies of Integrated Community Sustainability Plan availabe where you can see what the projections are for our future. Look forward to seeing you there. A remiinder that taxes are due on September 30, 2011. Please make sure your payments are in the office by that date or pay on line through ATB.

Village Update

As many of you will have noticed the road work is winding down and should be completed today, July 6 or tomorrow, July 7th. Thanks to all of you who had patience and did not drive around the barricades. The upgrades to the Village Administration Offices have been completed. We love our new flooring, especially how bright it makes the office. Come by for a look and have a coffee. We have severeal projects left to complete this summer - sidewalk repair, aeration for the raw water reservoir and the fencing around the pond in the new West Subdivision. The camera work has been completed on the sewers and we are patiently waiting to hear from the Village engineers to see which lines will be replaced first. This work should begin in 2012. There are several trailers parked in the campground that belong to a rig crew working east of town. On the night of July 5, 2011 someone entered their campsite and removed a lawn chair and some solar llights. If you know where they went please have them returned, no questions asked. We often get long term residents in the campground over the summer, these people contribute to our ecomony - they buy groceries, gas and pay to stay. We appreciate their business and like to have them return. So please treat them with respect. Don't forget taxes are due September 30, 2011.

The 2011 Tax Notices & Assessments were mailed out as of April 29, 2011.  Taxes are due no later then September 30, 2011.  There was a 2011 Tax Information Insert sent out with your 2011 Tax & Assessment Notice this year with very useful information so please be sure to read it.

The Village has several projects that we hope to take on this year.  First and foremost on our list is streets work.  Potholes will be filled and micro paving will take place on all paved streets within the Village.  An oil emulsion will placed on gravelled streets.  This emulsion goes on wet but when the water evaporates it dries to a hard surface.  The product that is being used will need two days to dry so work will not commence  until we expect temperatures of 14C overnight.  We are hoping that work can commence the last week in June.  Please bear with us until then.

Camera work will begin on the sewer system at some point this summer.  We are doing this to determine which lines will need to be replaced and in what order.  Water and sewer line replacement will start sometime in 2012 and continue for the next several years until all the old  lines have been replaced.

There are sections of sidewalk within the Village that need to be replaced or repaired and weather permitting this project will take place sometime this summer or fall.

Our raw water reservoir will be getting a new aeration system.  This system will help to eliminate undersirable taste and odour that we can experience in our water at times throughout the year.  This should make for better tasting and smelling water.  As always the quality of water will maintain its excellence.
